POSITION SUMMARY The accountant/bookkeeper is a full-time, non-exempt employee of the Jewish Federation/Foundation of Greater Toledo (JFGT). They are responsible for all aspects of accounts payable, journal entries, month-end close, year-end close, account reconciliations, assisting with preparation of financial reports, year-end auditing, annual budgeting and other accounting tasks for the Jewish Federation/Foundation and its affiliated agencies. BACKGROUND With an annual operating budget of over $4 million dollars and a staff of approximately 30 full time team members, JFGT is the central address community programing, services, and philanthropy for the Jewish community of northwest Ohio and part of southeast Michigan. JFGT includes a successful endowment program through the Toledo Jewish Community Foundation that stewards over $50 million dollars in community assets, a seven-figure annual campaign, a Jewish Senior, Family and Social Services division including a community food pantry, a professionally staffed Jewish Community Relations Council, a preschool in its own building, the PJ Library program, an active Next Jewish Generation program, Hillel programs at two state universities, exceptional programs for community members age 60 and better and a Toledo Jewish Community Cemetery Association that operates and maintains two cemeteries. The Toledo Jewish community is small but continues to support three synagogues as well as Chabad. Toledo boasts the University of Toledo, the Toledo Mudhens, and the nationally recognized Toledo Zoo and Toledo Museum of Art. Toledo is at the cross-roads of America with easy north/south highway access on I-75 and east/west highway access on I-80. It is within 50 minutes driving to Ann Arbor, 55 minutes to Detroit, 2.5 hours to Cleveland, and 4 hours to Chicago. QUALIFICATIONS • A minimum of an associate’s degree or equivalent from and accredited institution of higher education, preferred • A minimum of two (2) years’ accounting experience. Preferably with non-profit but not required • Required to have a knowledge of general office software, particularly the Microsoft Office Suite • Must be detail oriented, able to multi-task and have strong organizational/analytical skills REPORTING The Accountant/Bookkeeper reports directly to the Controller and works closely with the Financial Analyst Officer, and Accounting Associates, as well as synagogue representatives. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES • Review bills and invoices and prepare them for payment, post entries, updates and reconciliations • Review all incoming invoices and ensure timely payment of invoices and accuracy • Filing records • Assisting with cash forecasting and preparation of financial records • Assisting with annual budgeting and year-end auditing • Month-end GL post and reconciliation • Prepare tax exempt forms as needed • Assisting with cash management • Assisting with special projects such as fixed assets, grants/funds management and be the backup of Accounts Receivable management • Assist with non-profit benchmarking • Assist with GuideStar Rating • Other duties as assigned SALARY AND BENEFITS This is a full-time position, Monday through Friday (37.5 hours). Remote work is not available. Depending on the qualifications and experience of the candidate, the salary will be commensurate with experience.
