General Manager
Company Description From beginners to experienced climbers, Adventus Climbing Center creates space for anyone to climb. The facility offers over 10,000 square feet of climbing surface on 40-foot walls and features bouldering, auto-belays, top rope, and lead climbing, fitness equipment, and a multipurpose room available for events, such as corporate groups and birthday celebrations. Programming is available for youth through adults. Adventus supplements other recreational pursuits and has a beautiful outdoor space conveniently a short ride or walk away from Wildwood Preserve and the University of Toledo, adjacent to the University/Parks Trail.
Role Description The General Manager is a full-time, on-site role based at Adventus Climbing Center in Toledo, OH. This role oversees daily operations of the climbing gym, including staff scheduling, supervision, and training, ensuring a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for all guests. The General Manager nurtures the community culture, manages customer service standards, membership programs, event bookings, and group activities, while monitoring facility cleanliness and equipment inspections in coordination with qualified staff. Responsibilities include budget management, revenue tracking, retail operations, and coordination of marketing and community outreach initiatives to grow participation and membership. The General Manager collaborates closely with ownership to implement strategic goals, maintain compliance with safety policies, and support a culture that promotes healthy individuals, families, and communities.
Qualifications
- Experience in operations and facility management, including staff leadership and development, scheduling, and day-to-day oversight.
- Background in guest service, conflict resolution, and building positive relationships with members, guests, and community partners.
- Skills in budgeting, basic financial reporting, and revenue management to support sustainable business performance.
- Experience with event coordination, group bookings, and program development for classes, group events, and community activities.
- Ability to uphold and promote safety standards, risk mitigation practices, and incident response procedures in an active recreation environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with diverse staff and guests in a gender-neutral, inclusive setting.
- Previous climbing gym, outdoor recreation, fitness center, or related industry experience is highly beneficial; familiarity with climbing disciplines and equipment is a plus.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite software, point-of-sale systems, and membership or booking platforms.
- Availability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Relevant education or training in business management, recreation management
- 3 years of people managerial experience and program/event coordination in gym management or hospitality
- Climbing experience sufficient to understand the climbing community and why our members love this sport.
- College degree preferred.
Salary range: $60,000-$70,000 + bonus potential and perks
